November 26, 2026 – Symposium: Gaming & Antisemitism

On November 26, 2026, the Center for Critical Social Sciences will host a symposium titled “Gaming & Antisemitism,” featuring a workshop and a panel discussion.

Digital antisemitism is a growing societal problem that increasingly undermines social cohesion and participation. Due to their social significance and expanding reach, digital gaming spaces in particular are highly relevant environments for the dissemination of antisemitism. Despite this relevance, antisemitism in gaming has so far received little adequate attention in research, education, and prevention.
At the same time, antisemitism gives rise to distinct phenomena within digital gaming culture. Antisemitism manifests itself in gaming contexts in both subtle and overt ways. It ranges from traditional and unquestioned antisemitic tropes to targeted antisemitic propaganda in games and mods developed specifically for this purpose. Antisemitic communities are increasingly connecting and organizing on gaming-related platforms. These activities contribute to the normalization of antisemitic ideologies. Antisemitism in gaming contexts does not remain confined to the online sphere but can have real-world consequences, extending all the way to lethal violence.
This symposium provides an overview of communication practices, radicalization trends, antisemitic phenomena and actors, as well as related ideologies within digital gaming communities.

The event will be held in German. Information about the program and speakers will be available shortly.
